Erie Firefighter and L0293 VP Passing
Posted On: Mar 23, 2017
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that at 6:30 this evening our friend and brother Steve McKenrick was removed from life-support after suffering grave injuries in a motor vehicle accident in Polk County Florida. The accident also killed his mother and seriously injured his sister. Steve, or Beeve, as he was affectionately known was a 14 year veteran of the Erie Fire Department, proudly serving on Tower 2 1st Platoon. Steve was what every officer  wanted on his crew, a firefighter you didn't have to worry about. You could give him the most difficult task, under the most adverse conditions, and know  he would not only do it, but do it well. Steve was also Vice President of Erie Firefighters Local 293. He spent countless hours making sure the health, safety and rights of Erie Firefighters were protected. We are so thankful for his dedication to his brothers and sisters on the EFD and in one last moment of giving, Steve donated his organs so others may live. A hero in life and a hero in death. We offer our deepest sympathies to his wife Heidi and his children Nate and Karly. Brothers and Sisters, we have some hard days ahead of us but as we always do, we will pull together for Steve and for his family. God bless your soul Steve. Rest in peace Brother. Lt. Darren Hart
